Parkview Medical Center opens new outpatient center — 6 insights

Pueblo, Colo.-based Parkview Medical Center opened a new outpatient center, according to The Pueblo Chieftain.

Here's what you need to know:

1. The 22,000-square-foot facility has four operating rooms, four endoscopy suites, recovery areas and a waiting room.

2. The center was built within a year on the property that formerly featured the medical offices of Wallace B. Sullivan, MD, and Gordon Murley, MD. The new center's waiting room features Gordy and Sully's Coffee Shop in tribute.

3. Parkview's medical director of surgical services James Caldwell, MD, said that the main hospital faces overcrowding in the operating room, backing up outpatient surgeries. "So we decided that, really, the only thing we could do was to build a new center to help offload some of that extra caseload," Dr. Caldwell explained.

4. The outpatient center's opening will allow Parkview to shift much of its imaging and radiology equipment to the second floor of the hospital, enabling the expansion of the emergency department and Level II trauma center. This will decrease patient wait time and increase the scope of emergency care.

5. The center is projected to boost the local economy. All of the subcontractor work was handled by local companies and as many as 50 new positions will be added to the Parkview rolls with the outpatient center's opening.

6. Following a trial run of "mock cases" in the upcoming week, procedures at the outpatient center are scheduled to begin Feb. 5. The center will be able to accommodate as many as 60 procedures per day.
