As part of the merger process, Waterbury Hospital’s CEO said the hospital plans to submit a certificate of need to the state for an ambulatory surgical center built for the provision of reproductive and other services.
If the proposed joint venture is approved, a new $400 million hospital would be built that would replace Waterbury Hospital and Saint Mary’s Hospital, according to an NBC Connecticut report.
The proposal calls for LHP to have an 80 percent ownership stake in the new organization, with each of the Waterbury hospital’s owning a 10 percent interest.
The ASC would be run separately from the new hospital.
