Judge Puts New North Carolina Surgery Center for Novant Health on Hold

An administrative law judge has put a hold on a new surgery center in Holly Springs, N.C., for Novant Health, according to a report from the Winston-Salem Journal.

Novant received approval for a certificate of need for an $8.2 million, three-OR ASC last July. It was subsequently challenged by Rex Hospital, WakeMed Cary Hospital and Duke University Health System through an appeals process with the N.C. Division of Facilities Management on grounds that the Novant application was incomplete and lacking accurate information.

The administrative law judge said he agreed with the appeal when issuing his ruling to put the surgery center project on hold, according to the report.

All three hospitals had also applied for three operating beds but were denied; Rex and WakeMed have appealed the denials.
