CVS completes acquisition of 63 Rite Aid stores

CVS Pharmacy has finalized its acquisition of 63 former Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs locations in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, the company said in an Oct. 15 news release.

Here are four more things to know

1. CVS also acquired the prescription files of 626 former Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs pharmacies across 15 states, adding more than 9 million former patients to its customer base.

2. The company has hired over 3,500 former Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs employees and made targeted investments in existing CVS Pharmacy locations. These include increasing support staff, enhancing recruitment and hiring efforts, and strengthening employee training programs.

3. In May 2025, Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than two years, announcing plans to sell “substantially all” of its assets. The company had previously filed for bankruptcy in October 2023 and emerged in September 2024 following major restructuring and debt reduction efforts.

4. Walgreens and several grocery chains, including Albertsons, Kroger and Giant Eagle, also entered separate agreements to acquire portions of Rite Aid’s assets.
