Emory Johns Creek Hospital accepts patient safety award: 7 observations

Emory Johns Creek (Ga). Hospital earned the Georgia Hospital Association award for its patient safety efforts, according to Johns Creek Patch.

Here are seven observations:

1. The hospital accepted the award at the Georgia Partnership for Health and Accountability Quality and Patient Safety Awards on Jan. 6.

2. Emory Creek was in the category of Hospitals with 100 to 299 Beds.

3. Emory Johns Creek and five other hospitals will participate in the federally funded Multi-Center Medication Reconciliation Quality Improvement Study.

4. The hospital launched a projected, Medication Reconciliation: Reducing Pre-admission History Error & Optimizing the Discharge Medication Plan.

5. Both studies centered on enhancing ways medications are prescribed, documented and reconciled to prevent harm from medications.

6. Through the studies, Emory John Creeks aims to get the medication reconciliation form completed within eight hours for each high-risk patient.

7. Following the hospital's study, Emory hired a full-time medication reconciliation assistant, and later hired a second assistant. This year, the hospital aims to hire another full-time reconciliation assistant.
