US may experience shortage up to 33.2k of surgical specialists by 2025: 5 key statistics

Earlier this year, the Association of American Medical Colleges released a report which found the nation may face a significant shortage of primary care physicians and specialists by 2025.

Here are five key statistics:

1. By 2025, the nation may face a shortage of between 3,600 medical specialists and 10,200 medical specialists.

2. Regarding surgical specialists, the United Sates may face a shortage between 25,200 and 33,200.

3. The United States may face a shortage of between 14,900 primary care physicians and 35,600 primary care physicians by 2025.

4. The U.S. population under age 18 is anticipated to increase by 5 percent by 2025.

5. Comparatively, the U.S. population 65 and older is expected to rally 41 percent.
