New collaboration to establish best practices for mobile health apps: 5 insights

Four organizations are joining forces to establish Xcertia, a collaboration focused on mobile health apps.

Here are five insights:

1. Xcertia will work to ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of mobile health apps by creating best practices.

2. The multi-stakeholder collaboration includes American Heart Association, American Medical Association, DHX Group and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.

3. A nonprofit, Xcertia will open membership and governing board representation to consumers, developers, payers, clinicians and academics, among other professionals.  

4. Xcertia will focus on clinical content, usability, privacy, security, interoperability and effectiveness.

5. The nonprofit will not play a role in certifying mobile health apps.
