Struggle Over North Carolina CON Bill Heating Up

North Carolina hospital representatives have flocked to the General Assembly to to lobby against a bill that would loosen the state’s certificate of need process for ambulatory surgery centers, according to a report from the News Observer.

The bill would make it easier for new ASCs to be built, and a provision in the bill would “prohibit hospitals from developing their own standalone surgery centers in North Carolina,” according to the report.

Several organizations are supporting the bill, however, including the State Employees Association of North Carolina and N.C. Orthopaedic Association.
