St. Rita’s Medical Center to offer robotic surgery in outpatient ASC: 4 things to know

According to limaohio.com, Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, will feature a da Vinci Si surgical system in the Mercy Health-Ambulatory Surgery Center’s new surgical room, expected to be fully operational by June.

Here are four things to know.

1. The surgical robot will allow physicians to perform single-quadrant gallbladder, prostate, hysterectomy and hernia surgeries.

2. The hospital acquired its third surgical robot in August 2017. It now has two da Vinci XI robots and a da Vinci SI system.

3. According to St. Rita’s Medical Center President Dale Gisi, the hospital will be one of a few organizations to offer robotic surgery in an outpatient ASC. The new surgical system allows the organization to expand some of its strategic service lines of cardiovascular and neurosurgeries, Mr. Gisi said.

4. Mr. Gisi said the hospital is working on a multi-year project to offer internal, emergency and surgical medicine residencies.
