No-shows could cost your ASC $26K+ this year — 4 things to know

One patient no-show per day can cost an ASC thousands of dollars each year, according to Medbridge Transport, a company that provides medical transportation services to ASCs in Houston.

An ASC that spends $100 in payroll, equipment, rent and utilities for each scheduled patient and has one no-show five days a week — for 52 weeks — ends up losing $26,000 annually.

Four ways no-shows can affect ASCs:

1. ASC revenue depends on how many time slots it has available and can fill. When a time slot goes unfilled, an ASC is paying for idle resources on top of losing revenue.

2. No-shows create a staffing imbalance, with more active staff clocking in than necessary.

3. Waiting for a no-show to arrive creates workflow delays and longer wait times for other patients.

4. Medbridge Transport will look to combat no-shows by offering patients access to transport services.
