Mayor Bill de Blasio (D-N.Y.) is undergoing surgery for a recently developed hernia, according to The New York Times.
Here are three things to know:
1. Mayor de Blasio is expected to return to work on Monday, and will likely hold public events over the weekend, according to his press secretary, Karen Hinton.
2. There is no known reason for how Mayor de Blasio developed the hernia.
3. Hernias are typically a bulging of the intestine of body tissue through the abdomen and are relatively common, especially among men. They can be accompanied by severe pain, but Ms. Hinton said the mayor had experienced minimal discomfort.
