Kentucky ASCs now required to use surgical smoke evacuation system 

Beginning Jan. 1, Kentucky ASCs are required to use a surgical smoke evacuation system during any procedure that generates smoke.

The law is an effort to protect operating room nurses, personnel and patients from the hazards of surgical smoke, and it covers any tool that uses heat, laser, electricity or another form of energy.

ASCs violating the new law will be fined $100 to $500 per violation.
