Independent Uganda ASC wins design award: 5 things to know

American Institute of Architects and Academy of Architecture for Health granted a Kyabirwa, Uganda-based surgery center an award for the ASC’s design, according to arch daily.

Here are five things to know:

1. The independent ASC won the “Innovations in Planning and Design Research, Built and Unbuilt” award.

2. The surgery center has a reception pavilion and a family waiting area courtyard.

3. Additionally, patients have access to an intermediate pavilion for pre-op and post-op care.

4. The surgery center’s sterile pavilion houses two operating rooms.

5. Planners modeled the ASC’s solar panel shade structure after banana plants located on the premises.
