Five details:
1. The incident reportedly occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, but it wasn’t until about 10:30 a.m. that Gillette, Wyo.-based CCH noticed “serious computer issues resulting in service disruptions throughout the organization.” Staff were forced to use paper charts instead of EHRs.
2. CCH temporarily discontinued some services and is offering others on a case-by-case basis. Radiology services have been hit the hardest. Long-term residents are still being cared for.
3. CCH didn’t disclose the number of patients affected by the attack. However, the system’s IT director said during a press conference that there’s no indication patients’ medical data was compromised.
4. The system is working with local, state and federal authorities to resolve the cybersecurity issues.
5. County commissioners issued a disaster declaration to prevent the system from being slapped with Medicare penalties for using outside services of potentially lower quality.
