Here are five notes:
1. Eighty-one percent of hospitals and health insurance companies have encountered a data breach in the last two years.
2. Healthcare records are valued at 10 times the price of credit card numbers on the black market.
3. A mere 24 percent of non-technical employees and 23 percent of technical employees stated they thought their organization encountered a data breaches. However, 91 percent of technical staff and 77 percent of non-technical staff thought cyber criminals were targeting healthcare organizations more than in the past.
4. Only 38 percent of healthcare employees get security training twice a year and 49 percent get training once a year.
5. Fifty-three percent of organizations perform security testing more than twice a year. However, this may not be enough to combat cyber criminals. Steve Kelley at Trustwave Holdings said, “Annual vulnerability testing and annual security awareness programs aren’t really enough to maintain a fully secure posture in what’s becoming one of the biggest consumer data issues and privacy data issues in the world.”
