Death rate in the US reduced 43% from 1969-2013: 3 insights

Between 1969 and 2013, the death rate in the United States decreased 42.9 percent, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

1. Researchers conducted a joinpoint analysis of U.S. national vital statistics data from 1969 through 2013.

2. The analysis also revealed that from 1969 and 2013, there was a 77 percent reduction in the death rate for stroke; a 67.5 percent reduction for heart disease and a 17.9 percent reduction for cancer.

3. On the other hand, the death rate for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease increased by 100.6 percent in the analysis period.
