Data breaches cost healthcare industry $6.2B — 4 points

The Ponemon report found data breaches cost the healthcare industry nearly $6.2 billion in the last two years, according to The Merkle.

Here are four points:

1. In the last two years, nearly 90 percent of healthcare organizations encountered at least one data breach.

2. An average data breach costs nearly $2.2 million per hack.

3. Healthcare organizations are twice as likely as another industry to suffer a data breach.

4. Despite 20,000 vacant data security positions in the healthcare industry, many organizations cannot afford them.
