5 things to know about Stanford’s new Master of Science in Community Health and Prevention Research program

Stanford (Calif.) University implemented a new Master of Science and Community Health and Prevention Research program to prepare students on how to prevent health crises. The program involves analyzing and addressing social and infrastructural limitations, according to The Stanford Daily.

Here are five things to know:

1. The degree is open to all conterminal and other graduate school applicants for the 2016 to 2017 school year.

2. Those students currently pursing their MD or MBA degrees at Stanford can pursue a dual degree with the new program.

3. The coursework for the degree is comprised of research methods, biostatistics and evidence-based recommendations for prevention.

4. The program also prioritizes community-based internships where students are paired with faculty members to conduct research.

5. Stanford’s program reflects the national conversation about the current healthcare system in the United States. Sonoo Thadaney, director of the education program at Stanford Prevention Research Center, said, “Health means prevention and not just treatment.”
