Orthopedic surgeon Lance Silverman, MD, was among the first surgeons in Minnesota to perform synthetic cartilage joint replacements on a patient’s big toe, according to Sun Current.

1. He started his private practice in Edina, Minn., in 2005, with the practice since expanding to multiple locations including Minneapolis-based Greenway Surgery Center.

2. At the surgery center, Dr. Silverman specializes in ankle and foot surgery.

3. Dr. Silverman referred to the synthetic replacement procedure as a “game changer,” which has gained momentum since he performed the surgery years ago.

4. He earned his medical degree from Houston-based Baylor College of Medicine.

5. Following medical school, Dr. Silverman completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Detroit-based Henry Ford Hospital. He underwent a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
