Tracking denials in ASCs: 5 strategies

Regent RCM’s surgery centers aim to achieve denial rates of less than 5 percent, according to Erin Petrie, director of revenue cycle management for Regent RCM.

Ms. Petrie shared five strategies for denial tracking and management:

1. Get everybody to track denials and the reasons for them.

2. Look for trends among different payers.

3. Create an action plan to fix any problems causing denials.

4. Understand which payers and procedures require preauthorization.

5. Use multiple transaction codes to explain denials.
