PCPs take on the ACA: 52% not in favor

The New England Journal of Medicine found most primary care physicians do not favor the ACA.

Researchers conducted a survey between January and March 2015 to obtain their results.

Here’s what you should know:

1. Fifty-two percent found the health law unfavorable.

2. Slightly less than half (48 percent) said they found the ACA favorable.

3. Regarding what they would like legislators to tackle with the ACA, 15.1 percent said they want lawmakers to fully repeal the law. However, 73.8 percent believe lawmakers should change certain portions of the law.

4. A reported 87.6 percent of PCPs believed young adults should stay on their parents’ insurance until they are 26 years old.

5. Of PCPs, 90.8 percent believed the government should provide tax credits to small businesses and 75.2 percent said the law should give tax subsidies to individuals.

6. Most PCPs said they had an uptick in Medicaid or newly insured patients under the ACA. However, they said the increase did not change their ability to provide high quality care.

7. The majority of PCPs (72.9 percent) said they support Medicaid expansion.
