Number of small businesses in Kentucky offering insurance decreases: 3 takeaways

A Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky report said only 26.6 small business in the state are offering their employees health insurance, Louisville Business First reports.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. In 2012, 36.4 percent of small businesses offered health insurance.

President and CEO of the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky said the nearly 10 percent drop meant that thousands fewer businesses were offering insurance.

2. That’s not the case for larger businesses as 98.3 percent offered insurance in 2015. The number is similar to 2012.

3. The average premium for a private employee is $5,984, which rose by $587 from 2012 to 2015.
