Hillary Clinton backs proposed Medicare drug pricing rule: 5 things to know

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton supports the Obama administration’s Medicare drug pricing proposal, according to Morning Consult.

Here are five things to know:

1. Ms. Clinton believes CMS should adjust its reimbursement policies to more effectively pay for prescription drugs.

2. Addressing rising drug prices, the Obama administration wants to alter reimbursement policies for drugs administered in hospitals and practices.

3. The proposed rule would alter some of Medicare reimbursements from 106 percent of the drug’s average sales price to 102.5 percent of the drug’s average sales price. On top of that number would be an additional flat fee of $16.80.

4. Ms. Clinton supports the structure of the proposed rule, but notes certain components may be improved.

5. The Republican Party and pharmaceutical industry are fighting the proposal.
