HealthEdge, a provider of integrated financial, administrative and clinical platforms for health insurers, released its “State of the Payor” survey results. Here are five findings from the survey.

1. Of those surveyed, 73 percent of health insurance executives are crafting technology-driven strategies at their organizations.

2. The survey found health insurers must use technology to stay competitive and efficient.

3. The majority of health insurers reported understanding the significance of participating in new healthcare models, like value-based payments and accountable care organizations. However, manual business processes, legacy technology and satellite systems all pose as obstacles to adopting these new approaches.

4. Health insurers reported feeling pressure to offer consumers an experience similar to other industries, like retail or traveling.

5. Seventy-seven percent of healthcare executives reported they are trying to improve care coordination within their organizations.
