HCA, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Georgia salvage contract to cover Eastside General Surgery & other facilities — 3 insights

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthcare Plan of Georgia reached a new multi-year agreement with Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, the payer announced Oct. 4.

1. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia’s contract with Hospital Corporation of America was set to expire Oct. 1, meaning HCA’s facilities, physician groups and ancillary facilities would be considered out-of-network.

2. HCA announced it was no longer included in BCBC’s Georgia network until negotiations ended, WSAV.com reported Oct. 3.

3. Snellville, Ga.-based Eastside General Surgery and more than a dozen other Georgia physician groups are now back in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia plan, effective Oct. 1. Patients won’t be required to pay out-of-network costs for covered services received from HCA on or after Oct. 1.
