CMS Issues Proposed Rule for 2011 Inpatient Payment System

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has issued its proposed rule for inpatient and long-term acute care hospital prospective payment system payments, which take into account many provisions from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a report in AHA News Now.

Provisions include a 0.25 percent market basket cut, effective April 1, 2010. Others are wage index-related changes, payments to hospitals in “low-cost” counties, protections for frontier states and Medicare extenders, according to the report. CMS is accepting comments on the rule through July 2.
