Aspirus, WPS Health launching new health insurance company: 5 takeaways

Aspirus and WPS Health Solutions are partnering to launch a new health insurance company, according to Milwaukee- Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.

Here are five takeaways:

1. The new company will sell health plans in 16 north-central Wisconsin counties.

2. Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus has nearly 7,000 employees and operates four Wisconsin hospitals as well as four hospitals in Michigan. The company also operates 50 clinics.

3. The Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance must grant approval.

4. If approved, the new health insurance company will sell plans to individuals, small employers and large employers next year.

5. Aspirus and WPS have committed to investing over $20 million over the next several years in the new company.
