AMA Alters Editorial Process for CPT Change Process

The American Medical Association announced changes to the editorial process for updating its Current Procedural Terminology so that the code set most accurately reflects care, communication and efficiency.

Changes include more face-to-face meetings for physicians and stakeholders to give input; creating an independent medical adviser role to advise CPT staff on processes; and communicating better with entities that request a code change.

The AMA also aims to make the process more transparent and fair.
