Accusatory letters between Anthem Cigna may be made public: 4 things to know

An adviser to the judge overseeing the Anthem Cigna antitrust case believes the companies should disclose letters in which they accuse each other of breaching the merger, Bloomberg reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Richard Levine is the appointed special master in the case. He argued the documents should be released.

2. The Justice Department counters the documents would be pivotal in proving the two companies shouldn’t merge because the companies “can’t get along.”

3. Anthem and Cigna have claimed that the documents are privileged communication.

4. In August, an Anthem lawyer said there is “contentiousness” between the two companies, and that Cigna is planning on abandoning the merger after the April 30 deadline.
