Joint Commission Releases Second Animated Patient Safety Video, Focuses on Infection Control

The Joint Commission has announced it has released the second in a series of animated videos to encourage patients to become active participants in their healthcare, with the latest 60-second video focusing on infection control.

The "Speak Up" videos are intended as public service announcements and are available for viewing at The Joint Commission's YouTube channel at The messages of the infection control video include washing your hands, staying home when you are sick and getting a flu shot, according to a news release.

The first video focused on encouraging patients to feel comfortable speaking up about their healthcare whether in a doctor's office or at the hospital, just as they would speak up in other everyday life situations.

In addition to the videos, the Speak Up program, which launched in 2002, offers brochures, posters and buttons on a variety of patient safety topics.
