Four things to remember about locum tenens physicians:
1. They aren’t meant to be a permanent addition to the practice.
2. They shouldn’t be used to augment existing staff.
3. In anesthesia, the term “locum” only applies to anesthesiologists, not certified registered nurse anesthetists.
4. Practices cannot use a locum for more than 60 consecutive calendar days.
