Belleville, Ill.-based Memorial Hospital bestowed the Matthew B. Eisele M.D. Physician Excellence Award on anesthesiologist Randy Freeman, MD.

2. Dr. Freeman has been on the hospital's staff since 1991. He was selected as this year's recipient out of 35 other nominations.
3. Dr. Freeman is the chairman of the hospital physicians. He is also the anesthesia section head.
4. Several nominations described Dr. Freeman as an individual who "embodies all [the] characteristics this award represents."
