Avoiding layoffs from COVID-19 — 4 strategies for anesthesia groups

One of the biggest challenges for anesthesia groups navigating the COVID-19 outbreak is right-sizing staff as elective procedures are canceled, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.

Mr. Mira said practices can consider these four options to avoid layoffs:

1. Ask staff to use accrued paid time off
2. Allow employees to change from salaried to hourly status with reduced hours
3. Utilize extensive furloughs
4. Consider reallocating staff according to facility needs
