American Pain Society files for bankruptcy amid lawsuits linked to opioids

The American Pain Society filed for bankruptcy by the vote of its membership, which faced an array of costly legal battles.

1. Ninety-three percent of members voted in favor of proceeding with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case.

2. The society faced lawsuits alleging that it and other medical associations were a front for opioid drugmakers that financially supported them.
