Dr. Roberto Pineda II Performs First Cornea Transplant With Pre-Loaded Donor Tissue

At Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston, Robert Pineda, II, MD, recently performed the first cornea transplant with endothelial donor tissue pre-loaded at an eye bank.

Dr. Pineda has worked with the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research in Tampa, Fla., where the donor tissue was pre-loaded, for seven months to prepare for the procedure.

Dr. Pineda serves as a professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and the director of refractive surgery service at Massachusetts Eye and Ear.
