Ophthalmologist’s Office Raided Amid Sex, Fraud Scandal

Further threatening his reputation, the FBI and HHS raided Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen’s West Palm Beach office on suspicion of Medicare fraud, part of a separate investigation unrelated to simultaneous allegations Melgen and his cousin U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez hired underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic, according to a report by the Miami Herald.

Representatives for the senator and Dr. Melgen’s attorney deny wrongdoing on the men’s behalf and counter that the allegations are products of right-wing opposition to discredit the two. Dr. Melgen has been involved extensively in Democratic campaign fundraising efforts and has made significant donations of his own to the party.
