Moran Eye Center Donates Free Surgery

The Moran Eye Center, part of the University of Utah Health System in Salt Lake City, performed free eye surgery for a dozen poor and uninsured patients suffering from cataracts and similar ailments.

Some 30 medical professionals donated their time in the second annual event, but a few acknowledged the event has a price tag and the academic system has less revenue to fall back on.

Surgeon Brad Katz, MD, told the Deseret News, “Every year it is getting harder and harder to do something like this.”
