Post-Cataract Surgery Endophthalmitis Further Declining

Rates of post-operative endophthalmitis have lowered to a range between 0.03 percent and 0.15 percent, according to a presentation by Andrew Moshfeghi, MD, a physician and consultant speaking at the Hawaiian Eye 2013 conference in Waikoloa, Hawaii.

Dr. Moshfeghi’s data comes from a 15-year analysis of 60,000 cataract surgeries performed at a single institution. Only 16 cases of endophthalmitis were reported in that timespan.
