South Shore Medical Center hopes to join South Shore Health and Educational Corp: 5 things to know

South Shore Medical Center, the independently owned, multi-specialty private practice based in Kingston and Norwell, Mass., is seeking to join South Shore Health and Educational Corp., the parent company of South Shore Hospital in South Wemouth, Mass, reports Boston Business Journal.

Here are five things to know:

1. South Shore Medical Center is not-for-profit practice and includes over 80 providers and on site radiology departments and laboratories.

2. The agreement is open for Health Policy Commission review.

3. South Shore Medical Center CEO Thomas Carroll said this effort to build on a 53-year relationship with South Shore Hospital is due to the center wanting to deliver care that is more coordinated, efficient and affordable.

4. South Shore Medical Center would join the South Shore Physician Ambulatory Enterprise, a not-for-profit affiliate of the Health and Educational Corp.

5. There would not be a purchasing price or merger cost because both South Shore Medical and South Shore Health are not-for-profit, according to a Boston Business Journal report.
