Former Stryker VP joins Catalyst OrthoScience as executive chair, interim CEO — 5 facts

Catalyst OrthoScience named Brian K. Hutchison executive board chair and interim CEO.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Hutchison succeeds Robert M. Kaufman, who has been Catalyst OrthoScience's chairman and CEO since August 2017. Mr. Hutchison will serve as interim CEO until the company installs a permanent CEO.

2. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Hutchison served as RTIs Surgical's CEO for 15 years. He grew the company's annual revenue from $55 million to $300 million, successfully merged the company with Tutogen Medical and oversaw the acquisition of Pioneer Surgical Technologies. He also secured multiple rounds of financing during his tenure.

3. Mr. Hutchison previously served as Stryker Corp.'s worldwide product development and distribution vice president, Howmedica Osteonics Division senior vice president and COO, and Stryker Medical Division president.

4. Mr. Hutchison currently serves on the board of directors for Zavation Medical Products and the University of Florida Research Foundation.

5. Catalyst develops and markets surgical implants. The company's first offering, the Catalyst CSR Total Shoulder System, is a total shoulder arthroplasty system for use in inpatient and outpatient settings. It won FDA clearance in 2016.

"In the coming months, I will be focused on assessing the company's structure and filling the gaps on the leadership team, including recruiting a permanent CEO. I believe the Catalyst CSR Total Shoulder System is one of the best shoulder replacement technologies on the market today, and I look forward to continued sales growth as we expand our market presence," Mr. Hutchison said.
