Johnson and Johnson's DePuy Synthes Products signed off on an agreement to acquire Medical Enterprises Distribution's assets, including the automated ME1000 Surgical Impactor for use in hip replacement procedures.

1. The company expects the transaction to close in the second quarter of 2018.
2. Financial terms were not disclosed.
3. DePuy Synthes plans to expand MED's surgical impactor technology for various orthopedic surgery procedures.
4. The battery-powered ME1000 automates bone preparation, implant assembly and positioning in total hip arthroplasty. Designed to replace handheld mallets, the device can be used with several surgical approaches, including the anterior approach.
5. DePuy Synthes recently entered into an exclusive marketing agreement with JointPoint to co-market a system for digital templating, implant selection and implant positioning during hip replacement procedures. JointPoint is compatible with the ME1000.
