Materialise launches online planning platform for shoulder surgery — 3 insights

Materialise launched a shoulder surgery planner system in collaboration with DePuy Synthes.

Here's what you should know.

1. The system will help orthopedic surgeons prepare for shoulder arthroplasty surgeries. Specifically, the system addresses reverse shoulder arthroplasty and anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty operations.

2. In addition to helping surgeons prepare for the operations, the system allows patient-specific, 3-D printed surgical guides to be ordered.

3. Materialise CEO and Founder Wilfried Vancraen said, "3-D planning is gaining popularity with orthopaedic surgeons performing shoulder operations. Together with our strategic partners like DePuy Synthes, we are continually working to improve surgical planning processes for a range of operations. We are proud that this expanded collaboration will empower even more orthopaedic surgeons to discover the benefits of online planning and 3-D-printed, patient-specific surgical guides."
