Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Ashton Center for Day Surgery became the first ASC in Illinois to perform robot-arm assisted total joint replacement surgery using the Stryker Mako 4 surgical robot.
Samuel Lake, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and partner at Suburban Orthopaedics, performed the procedure
“With the Mako 4 robotic system, I can utilize a CT scan to create a personalized surgical plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy before entering the operating room,” Dr. Lake said in a Sept. 30 news release shared with Becker’s. “During surgery, I can confirm my plan and make any necessary adjustments while guiding the robotic arm to execute the intended surgical plan. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology for partial knee replacements, total knee replacements, and total hip replacements.”
The Mako system uses 3D modeling and robotic precision to improve implant placement, preserve bone and tissue and support faster recovery.
