1. The Mesquite, Texas-based NTTC Surgery Center is offering robotic total knee replacement. The robot uses scans of the patient’s knee to construct a virtual model the surgeon can use during surgery.
2. Physicians at Alexandria, Minn.-based Heartland Orthopedic Specialists are now performing joint replacements using the Mako robotic arm. Six physicians at the practice are trained to use the technology. The Mako robot provides surgeons with preoperative plans that tailor the surgery to fit a patient’s anatomy and help surgery become more precise through use of a guidance system.
3. Physicians at the Jackson-based Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center performed their first outpatient knee replacement using the ROSA surgical robot last month. Trevor Pickering, MD, performed a left total knee replacement using ROSA on May 28.
