Bloomington, Ill.-based VisionPoint Eye Center notified current and former patients about a recent network security incident, according to a Dec. 13 news release from the center.

Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico Hospital will soon open new residency slots for ophthalmologists, according to a Dec. 18 report from KOB4.

Device company ASD Specialty Healthcare, doing business as Besse Medical, has agreed to pay $1.67 million to resolve allegations it provided inventory management systems to ophthalmology practices at no cost to induce them to purchase drugs from Besse. 

Garden City, N.Y.-based OCLI VIsion has added Gila Zilkha, MD, to its ophthalmology staff.

John Wick, MD, an ophthalmologist in Butler, Pa., died Dec. 10 at age 87, according to an obituary published Dec. 13 by the Butler Eagle. 

Eyecare practice management provider Eye Health America has added its 26th practice, Clinton, S.C.-based Family Eye Care Center.

The highest-paid ophthalmologist in Charlotte, N.C., earns $745,200 per year, according to Medscape's salary reporter tool, which is much higher than the mean annual wage of $312,120 ophthalmologists make according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The University of Colorado in Aurora has received a $46 million grant from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health to research a method of curing blindness through human eye transplants, Colorado Public Radio reported Dec. 9. 

Miami-based  Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and University of Miami Miller School of Medicine have received a multimillion dollar grant from HSS' Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health.
