Dr. John was a “visionary” in the specialty, according to the obituary. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and went on to complete his residency at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1974. In 1997 he performed the first outpatient cataract surgery and implanted the first Artisan lens for correction of high myopia. Dr. John taught courses in more than 15 different countries, was published over 40 times and has given almost 400 presentations in the field of ophthalmology.
