Centerpoint Ambulatory Surgery Center (Independence, Mo.). The surgery center provides same-day services in specialties such as orthopedics, urology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and pain management. It includes four operating rooms and three procedure rooms, and has a pediatric waiting room with "rich comfortable tones" throughout the building. The center's website also provides a free children's coloring book download with information on what pediatric patients can expect at the surgery center. Pediatric patients are invited on a tour of the facility before surgery to help alleviate fears and both parents are able to stay with their children in the preoperative area and step-down recovery area. Children are able to bring a stuffed animal or blanket with them through the process. The ASC is affiliated with Centerpoint Medical Center, HCA Midwest Health System.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Surgery Center. The facility includes specialists in pediatric anesthesiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, gynecology, neurosurgery and minimally invasive techniques. The waiting area at the center was designed with pediatric patients in mind with activity tables for patients to explore while waiting for registration. There are also videogames, books and toys available for children in the preoperative area. Parents are able to accompany their children to the operating room and the pediatric patients are able to choose a toy to take home after surgery.

Children's West Surgery Center (Knoxville, Tenn.). The ASC is the only pediatric-specific freestanding ambulatory surgery center in East Tennessee. The center was founded in 2003 as a joint venture between East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and LeConte healthcare. Specialties at the surgery center include otolaryngology, urology, orthopedics and gastroenterology. The center received AAAHC accreditation and is a member of Partners in Pediatrics and ASCA. The center includes more than 40 practitioners. Children are encouraged to bring along a favorite toy or blanket, book or electronic device during the preoperative time.

Cook Children's Pediatric Surgery Center (Plano, Texas). The center offers services including general surgery, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and otolaryngology. The surgery center received the 2010 Apex Quality Award. The center encourages parents to bring along the child's favorite toy or DVD and involve the child in the preparation process for the procedure.

Gateway Surgery Center (Clinton, Iowa). Opened in 1998, the surgery center offers pediatric services as well as surgical services in a wide array of specialties, including general surgery, orthopedic, gynecology, ophthalmology and urology. It features two endoscopic/procedure rooms and two operating rooms. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and includes 11 physicians. The center is a part of the Medical Associated of Clinton, Iowa, which has a 50-year history.

Huntington Ambulatory Surgery Center (Pasadena, Calif.). The ASC was designed especially for pediatric patients. The anesthesia and nursing team have extensive training and experience with pediatric patients. The center encourages children to bring a favorite toy or blanket with them and parents are able to stay with their children while in the preoperative and postoperative suites. HASC is a joint venture between Huntington Memorial Hospital and San Gabriel Valley physicians. The center is accredited by Medicare and AAAHC. Services at the center include pain management, orthopedics, podiatry, ophthalmology, gynecology and otolaryngology.

Le Bonheur East Surgery Center (Memphis, Tenn.). The pediatric multispecialty ASC is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and licensed by the state of Tennessee. It is a part of Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, which offers care in nine pediatric specialties. The surgery center's physicians are trained in anesthesiology, dentistry, gastroenterology, general surgery, ENT and orthopedics.

Northeast Missouri Ambulatory Surgery Center (Hannibal, Mo.). The ASC was founded in 2000 as a joint venture between The Hannibal Clinic and B&B Surgical Enterprises. It was the first licensed and Medicare-certified ambulatory surgery center in the region. The ASC was designed to accommodate the special needs of pediatric patients and includes a qualified nursing staff and anesthesia team with extensive pediatric patient training. Patients are encouraged to bring a toy or blanket with them and parents are required to stay with patients during the preoperative and postsurgical process. The center includes gastroenterology, general surgery and ophthalmology.

Pediatric ENT Institute of South Texas at Physicians Ambulatory Surgery Center (San Antonio). The center is designed for pediatric patients and includes only surgeons who received an additional one or two year fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology. The facility treats infants and children with a variety of complications, including congenital malfunctions of the head and neck structures, complicated infections and sensory impairments. Children up to 18 years of age are treated at the center, which includes three physicians.

Pediatric Surgery Center at Atlanta Outpatient. The pediatric-focused surgery center offers a number of specialty services, such as pediatric anesthesia, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, ENT, orthopedic surgery and dentistry. Accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care, the facility provides care to patients ranging from three months to 21 years old. It is a part of Atlanta Outpatient Surgery Center in Sandy Springs, Ga., which was opened in 1978.

Pediatric Surgery Centers (Tampa, Fla.). The surgery center was designed by pediatric physicians and nurses to meet the needs of children and their families. The environment was engineered to alleviate a child's anxiety about surgery and facilitate a fast recovery. Pediatric Surgery Centers has two locations in Tampa and Odessa, Fla., and serves children from birth to 21 years of age. The entire staff is trained in pediatric healthcare methods and advanced life support. The center is licensed by the state's Agency for Health Care Administration and Medicare-approved.

Phoenix Children's Hospital Surgery Centers. The surgery centers — Phoenix Children's East Valley Surgery Center and Phoenix Children's Surgery Center — offer specialized outpatient surgical services for children. The East Valley Surgery Center includes two operating rooms and a gastrointestinal endoscopy suite. The surgery centers include a highly trained pediatric team.

Specialty Care & Surgery Center (Chalfont, Pa.). The ASC offers a wide range of pediatric outpatient specialty medical and surgical services, including audiology, cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics, ENT, endocrinology and diabetes and pulmonology. The surgery center is staffed by pediatric surgeons and anesthesiologists from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Medical Center Ambulatory Surgery Center. The ASC is dedicated to providing surgical care with compassion to patients. The center's website includes informational videos for pediatric patients and a preoperative coloring book. The center offers informal preoperative visits for children two to 18 years old and encourages families to tour the facility, which includes seeing and touching the monitoring equipment and anesthesia masks. The center is accredited by The Joint Commission Accreditation of Hospital Organization. It includes eight operating rooms.

Summit Surgical Center (Voorhees, N.J.). The surgery center is a freestanding ASC on the campus of Virtua Voorhees. The center includes a dedicated pediatric anesthesia team and cares for more than 3,000 pediatric patients per year. The center has seven operating rooms, two endoscopy suites and a stereotactic room. This joint venture between Virtua and Virtua's physician partners provides services such as endoscopic sinus surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder removal, pain management and sports medicine procedures. The center is AAAHC-accredited and includes a Teddy Bear Clinic that allows pediatric patients to see "behind the scenes" of the surgery center. This annual free event allows children to bring their favorite teddy bear or doll to take through the admission, preoperative, surgical and recover process at the center.

Texas Pediatric Surgery Center (North Richland Hills). The ASC has a mission of partnering with parents to provide high quality care for children in a safe, non-threatening environment. The center has earned CMS and AAAHC accreditation. The surgeons treat patients from three months to 21 years old. Staff and surgeons are training in pediatric surgical and recovery care. The ASC is affiliated with North Hills Hospital and offers services such as podiatry, otolaryngology, orthopedics and ophthalmology.

West Hills (Calif.) Surgical Center. The surgery center provides care in numerous specialties, including general surgery, gynecology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, ENT, pain management and pediatric surgery. The center was opened in 1996, and it includes more than 90 participating physicians and physician partners. It is fully licensed by Medicare and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Monica O'Hayer, RN, serves as administrator of the center.
