9 recent ASC company news updates

Here are nine recent news updates on big company players in the ambulatory surgery center industry.

Hospital Corporation of America intends to buy back half of Bain Capital Investors' $1.13 billion stake in HCA. The buy back is valued at about $555.7 million, minus a 1 percent discount.

Laser Spine Institute broke ground on a new $56 million headquarters in and plans to add 100 new jobs.

Medical Facilities Corporation announced a cash pay dividend of Cdn$0.09375 per common share will be made payable on Jan. 15, 2015.

Medical Facilities Corporation reported $55.6 million in operating expenses, 72.3 percent of revenue, compared to $52.9 million or 72.5 percent of revenue in the prior year period.

Northstar Healthcare acquired healthcare marketing company Athas Health for $34 million.

Following the acquisition of Athas Health, the company rebranded as Nobilis Health.

Nueterra Global Alliance's international reach has extended to Canada. Mega Assistance Services will serve as NGA's Canadian ambassador. NGA and Mega Assistance Services will work with medical tourism provider MediTravel International to allow Canadian patients access to United States healthcare providers within the NGA network.              

Surgical Care Affiliates invested in 11 facilities during the third quarter of 2014, seven of which were consolidated. The company also exited six facilities, three of which the company managed only.

For the nine months ended Sept. 30, United Surgical Partners International reported consolidated net revenues of $466.1 million compared to $451.4 million in the prior year period. Operating income increased from $181.9 million to $183.7 million.
