Surgery Partners hires former Anthem exec as CEO: 5 things to know

Surgery Partners named Wayne DeVeydt CEO, effective immediately.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. DeVeydt replaced Interim CEO Clifford Adlerz and will have a spot on the company's board of directors. Mr. Adlerz will also remain on the board of directors.

2. With more than 20 years of operational and strategic experience, Mr. DeVeydt was brought on to lead Surgery Partners through its next growth phase. He will work with the company's leadership team to achieve operational improvements, accelerate same-facility case growth and act on accretive tuck-in acquisitions.

3. Prior to joining Surgery Partners, Mr. DeVeydt spent more than 10 years as the executive vice president and CFO of Anthem, where he oversaw financial operations for the company, which had $82 billion in annual revenue. He also spent time as chief strategy officer, chief accounting officer and chief of staff to the chairman and CEO.

4. Mr. DeVeydt is currently on the board of directors for NiSource and Myovant Sciences.

5. As CEO, Mr. DeVeydt will be responsible for the company's 150-plus locations in 29 states. Surgery Partners owns and operates ASCs, surgical hospitals, a diagnostic laboratory, multispecialty physician practices and urgent care facilities.
