A surgery center nurse and her family traveled to Guatemala on a surgical mission trip organized by Wings of Recovery, a nonprofit composed of healthcare professionals who provide medical care to areas lacking access, the Victoria (Texas) Advocate reported.

1. Julie Rojas works as a pre-admitting nurse at The Surgery Center in Victoria, Texas. The Surgery Center is a physician- owned, multi specialty center that offers orthopedic, gastroenterology and general surgery care.

2. Mrs. Rojas said her husband, Peter Rojas, MD, a general surgeon who practices at the Port Lavaca, Texas-based Memorial Medical Center, has traveled with the nonprofit 15 times to operate on patients. The volunteers provided surgical care for 26 people.

3. Mrs. Rojas also traveled with her daughters, Kristin Rojas, MD, who practices as a gynecologic surgeon and breast surgical oncologist at the New York City-based Maimonides Medical Center, and Hilary Rojas Davis, who works as a cardiac ICU nurse.
